Gravitational Wave Detection: Search for the origin of space-time
Institutue of Physics, Academia Sinica (AS) is leading gravitational wave researches in Taiwan. AS and 7 other universities and instuties joined the Asia-based KAGRA collaboration.
KAGRA is the first km-scale project to use cryogenic and underground technology. KAGRA is part of the International Gravitational-Wave Observatory (IGWN), in collaboration with LIGO and Virgo.
Contributions of ASGC at this stage include:
1. GPU-accelerated parameter estimation by DiCOS
– Evaluation of likelihood function by repetition over ~100,000 frequency bin
– able to achieve ~100x speedup for some processes
2. Data backup and delivery
3. Monte Carlo Simulations
